EducationHello, my name is MacKenzie. I graduated with honors at Concordia University Wisconsin in 2013, with a degree in Educational Studies and a minor in Mathematics.
I graduated from Brookfield East High School in 2009 achieving scholastic honors, while I worked part-time and served as captain of the varsity gymnastics team.
ExperienceI was the Academic Success Center Teacher at Homestead High School in Mequon. Students who were assigned to the class were typically struggling students who were falling behind in their academics. I got the opportunity to guide them towards academic success with mini lessons and daily help with homework assignments and concept lessons.
Since 2009 I have been tutoring students from 2nd grade through college level via small group and individual instruction with the following South Eastern Wisconsin schools: HOPE Fortis, Oriole Lane, Steffen Middle School, Homestead High School, Fairview South Special Education School, Brookfield East High School, Milwaukee Lutheran and Concordia University Wisconsin.
I have taken multiple college courses at Concordia University Wisconsin that feature in-depth analysis of the best practices used by professionals to teach students how to learn quickly and effectively. I have perfected these methods through my academic work and my extensive tutoring experiences. I use only the most proven teaching strategies in my tutorials. Because I am highly knowledgeable in the latest ways children develop socially, emotionally, and academically, I am able to tailor individualized lessons appropriate to the level of development of the student.
As a result of these experiences, my tutoring centers on establishing an environment where my students understand that I respect their feelings and abilities and value their efforts. This is the environment in which students have been shown to learn most naturally. I know that children are more open to expressing their feelings and frustrations about learning when they trust their tutor because they know their tutor cares about them and respects their family's desire to see them succeed. By creating this atmosphere of trust, I am able to provide specialized solutions designed to meet the students' individual needs and address their concerns.
I intend to enable your child to see beyond their perceived world and challenge and shape their minds positively for their future. With my energetic teaching personality and experience with children I intend to help motivate your child to keep the spark of learning alive within him or her throughout the rest of their lives.
I sincerely thank you for reviewing my website and considering me for such an important position as an educator and role model for your child. I would love to speak with you more about your child's educational goals. Feel free to send me a message.
My tutoring rates:
$50 per hour (once a week)
$40 per hour (minimum 2 hours per week)
I believe that education is the foundation of life. It strengthens the body and mind which develops student character. My philosophy is to give my students more to think about than their homework, to challenge their limits and shape their minds positively for their future. Motivation is critical to student success. My use of teaching differentiation will be an important basis for my lesson plans because all students learn best in their own unique ways. My goal is to help your child keep their love of learning and if they lost it, to bring it back.
The Purpose of Education..
Many things come and go, but Education will continue throughout ones entire life. Because of this, I believe that being a teacher is the most important job in the world. Having an education is the basis of every type of activity in life and enables people to achieve their fullest potential in whatever category they wish. These categories could include their personal, spiritual, mental, social, or their physical potential. The ability of being educated is what distinguishes humans from animals. All students have the ability to learn and bring something new and amazing to the world and make it a better place. As an educator, I want to challenge and motivate my students to use what God gave them to discover and solve life's questions.
How students learn best..
I believe students learn best with a variety of different teaching methods and assignments. This can boost up the students alertness in class therefore being more attentive to the lesson being given. The key to learning is student motivation. Anyone can learn, but the choice to learn is the first step in the process of gaining knowledge. Students who are motivated to learn absorb and retain more information, which is part of my goal as a teacher/tutor. I will attempt to make what I am teaching more fun and interesting so my students are more eager to learn and apply it in their lives.
The qualities of an effective tutor..
To be an effective tutor you need to have self knowledge, communication skills, application of education, ability to adapt to change, and be passionate and enthusiastic of the topic you are teaching. When all these skills are used together it creates an effective tutor. Student behavior changes with their environment, and a good tutor knows how to adapt to their surroundings to continue student learning.
Motivating and challenging a childs mind is my vocation. By using teaching differentiation I believe all students can learn. Being passionate and enthusiastic of the topic I am teaching I create a positive learning environment. My goal is to make what I am teaching more fun and interesting so my students can retain more information and apply in it their lives.
HobbiesI currently am the Optional Gymnastics Team Director at the Scamps and have been involved in gymnastics ever since I was a toddler. Now that I have grown too tall I have picked up biking as a hobby. I love arts and crafts and creating things from scratch. I used to do competitive rock climbing and have traveled around the United States climbing indoors and outdoors. Every weekend I still travel to Adventure Rock to continue my love of climbing.
